Hardburly, Kentucky Perry County View of part of the mining camp ca 1923. This coal town lies at the head of Jake Branch of Trace Fork of Lotts Creek, 3 1/2 miles nw of Hazard. It was founded by and named for the Hardy Burlington Mining Co. The post office was established on April 17, 1918.

· Ben E. Clement Mineral Museum. The main place to find gems in Kentucky is the Ben E. Clement Mineral Museum. The museum preserves the heritage of mining in Western Kentucky. It has a large display of gemstone mining equipment as well as historical documents and photographs that chronicle the history and importance of mining to the region.

· Sorry for the inconvenience. A man walks down the road in Tom Biggs Hollow in Letcher County, Kentucky, while his children play nearby. Ken Mine was the first Peabody Mine to become operational, in this area, and shortly thereafter Homestead Mine started up. This mining area generally consisted of an area bordered on the North by Western Kentucky Parkway and South, East, and West by the Green River.
